Beginner Chord Chart
When I teach a student learning the guitar for the first time, I start them with the easy G chord. This chord can be used until they are ready to move onto the full G chord. After that, I teach Easy C and Easy G7. They both use the first finger and are easy to switch back and forth from. I have a great teaching sequence that helps my students work through learning the easy G, easy G7 and easy C chords. You can find the songs using those chords here. Once those guitar chords become familiar, you can gradually move to the full versions as you feel ready. The next chord I teach is D7. You can find 5 songs using G, C, G7 & D7 here. From there, I teach D, A7, Am, and Am7 using songs. Equally important to learning guitar chords is learning other music fundamentals such as rhythm which is why my songs also start to increase in strum pattern difficulty so you can learn quarter notes, half notes, whole notes and eighth notes. Below you will find a Beginner Chord Chart that is free to download, save or print. I give this chart to my beginner students and I recognize their progress at recitals when they have learned all of the chords on the chart.
