ABOUT MODERN GUITAR APPROACH
Modern Guitar Approach is a place for me to publish the same music I teach my private students.
Over the years as a teacher, I have worked hard to find great songs to teach essential music concepts for the guitar. I have learned that my students want to play music they recognize and enjoy playing from the very beginning. I have also found that I am a better teacher when I can find a recognizable song to teach a concept instead of using an exercise. Once I find a great song, I work at it until it really shows my students the technique or concept I’m trying to teach.
I believe that a song can teach so much more if it’s presented right. My hope is to help cultivate musicians in the most enjoyable way possible. This website is full of the music I use to teach my students along with lesson sequences. Everything is free and available to download or print for personal use.
HOW MODERN GUITAR APPROACH IS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER ONLINE GUITAR RESOURCES
There are many great resources for learning to play the guitar on the internet. However, each one has a downside. Youtube tutorials are helpful, but they rarely have music that can be printed off from their video lessons. Tablature sites are getting better, but they are still often incorrect or difficult to understand. Sheet music is expensive to buy and then gives too much information for a beginning student. What most students need from sheet music are the chords, correct rhythm and a way to play through those chords and that type of music is hard to find.
